Hospital management software: your questions answered

What hospital owners and administrators usually ask before choosing a system — covering modules, deployment, compliance, integrations and getting started.

The basics

A Hospital Management System (HMS) is software that connects every department of a hospital — OPD, IPD, Emergency, Diagnostics, Pharmacy, Billing, HRMS and Medical Records — into one platform, replacing paper registers and disconnected spreadsheets with a single, auditable source of truth. See our complete guide to hospital management systems.

Cost depends on the facility, not on a fixed sticker price: bed count, which modules you adopt, cloud or on-premise deployment, machine integrations, data migration and training all move the number. Because every module can be adopted on its own, you can start small. Request a quote for your facility, or read what drives hospital software cost.

Yes. Each module — for example the laboratory information system, IPD management or pharmacy — runs on its own and connects to the others when you are ready, so you can add departments later without re-implementing.

DevOrbital HMS covers Patient Care (OPD, IPD, Emergency, Operation Theatre), Diagnostics (Pathology, Radiology, Cardiology and more), Pharmacy & Central Stores, Finance & Billing, HRMS & payroll, the Medical Record Department (MRD), Reports & Analytics, and System Master configuration — over 40 modules and screens. Multi-specialty hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and polyclinics, diagnostic centres, maternity and super-specialty hospitals, and teaching hospitals — anywhere in India. See all use cases.

No. Because modules are independent, a small clinic can start with OPD and billing while a large hospital runs the whole platform. You pay attention to what you adopt, not to what you do not need.

Deployment & security

Yes. It can run as cloud-hosted software on your own domain and branding, or be installed entirely within your hospital’s own infrastructure for full data control — without rebuilding any workflows. Compare the options on the deployment page or in our cloud vs on-premise guide.

Every deployment keeps your hospital’s data logically isolated, backups are encrypted and run through an outbound-only agent, and a full audit trail logs every create, edit and delete — who, what and when. Details are on the security page.

You do. The platform is designed so you are never locked out of your own records. Talk to us about export and handover terms for your engagement.

On-premise installations run inside your own network, so day-to-day work does not depend on an internet connection; internet is used for support sync and backups. Cloud deployments need connectivity by nature — we can discuss the right setup for your site.

Yes. User & Role Management provides granular module-level permissions, so a billing executive, a nurse and a doctor each see only what their role needs.

Compliance

DevOrbital HMS is designed with India’s regulatory landscape in mind — ABDM readiness through a dedicated ABDM add-on module, NABH-aligned documentation and audit trails, and DPDP-conscious data handling. Software supports your compliance work; accreditation and legal compliance remain your facility’s responsibility. See ABDM and NABH readiness.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is India’s national digital health ecosystem, built around ABHA health IDs and consent-based sharing of health records. Read our ABDM and ABHA guide for hospitals for what it means in practice.

The emergency module includes a colour-coded triage board, MLC handling and deferred billing, so treatment is not held up by payment or paperwork. Always confirm statutory requirements with your legal advisers.

Yes. Insurance & TPA management covers contracts, rate cards and claims for TPAs, corporates and government schemes in one place.

Integrations & add-ons

DevOrbital HMS is capable of integrating with machines across Radiology & Imaging, laboratory analyzers, Blood Bank equipment, ICU/OT patient monitors, biometric access control, barcode/QR scanners and payment terminals. Whether a specific machine can be connected depends on its output interface, so each device is assessed and scoped individually. See machine integrations.

Nothing in the workflow depends on a machine. Results and reports can always be entered manually, typed or from templates, and integration can be added later once the device has been assessed.

Add-ons include ABDM, Telemedicine, Patient Portal & App, WhatsApp/SMS alerts, QR-code registration, IVR booking, token management, accounting integration, health checkup packages, ambulance management, canteen and more. Each can be enabled independently.

An accounting integration add-on is available. Tell us what you use and we will confirm what is involved.

Getting started

Cloud deployments are the fastest way to go live, since there is no on-site infrastructure to set up. Timelines depend on the number of modules, data migration needs and staff training — get in touch for a plan specific to your hospital. Our implementation and migration guidance helps you prepare.

Yes. Onboarding and training are hands-on and run by the team that builds the platform, not a video library. The interface uses fewer screens and clicks, which shortens the learning curve.

Yes — try the live demo at your own pace, or book a guided walkthrough shaped around your departments.

The same founder-led team. Support conversations go to the people building the platform, not a ticket queue.

Start with our buyer’s checklist, shortlist by the modules you actually need with the module selector, and ask every vendor about deployment options, data ownership, integrations and support.
